The City of South Beloit has contracted with Rock River Disposal for refuse collection and it now includes recycling. For further information about the program or questions you may contact Rock River Disposal – visit their website or call 815-965-2489.
Q. Why did I receive a large bin and small recycling bin with Rock River Disposal in my driveway?
A. The City of South Beloit entered into a new garbage contract with Rock River Disposal effective January 1, 2016 that includes a 95 gallon tote for trash and an 18 gallon recycling bin.
Q. Can I still use my own garbage cans for additional garbage that exceeds the large garbage tote?
A. Yes, you can use your own garbage cans instead of the 95 gallon tote or in addition to the 95 gallon tote. Additional cans are to be no larger than 32 gallons in size and are not to exceed 50 pounds each.
Q. What if I do not want the new tote or bin?
A. Unwanted totes and bins can be taken to the Public Works Building at 225 Perry Ave from 7:30 am-3:30 pm Monday-Friday.
Q. Are the garbage and recycling bins mine to keep?
A. No, they remain the property of Rock River Disposal.
Q. What do I do if my bin is damaged?
A. Contact Rock River Disposal.
Q. Do I have to recycle?
A. Currently, you are not required to recycle, but hopefully you will find value in recycling.
Q. Am I paying extra for the recycling service?
A. The new contract cost for garbage service will increase to $11.50 beginning February 1, 2016. Recycling is included in the contract.
Q. Can I opt out for recycling?
A. Though you are not required to recycle, the cost is included in the garbage contract.
Q. How often can I put out my recycling bin for pickup?
A. Weekly, along with your garbage.
Q. What if my recycling bin is not big enough for my recyclables?
A. You can use any additional container (ex: garbage can, tote, etc) as long as it is no larger than 32 gallons in size and is clearly marked as “Recycle”.
Q. What do I do if I have a recycling bin I’ve previously been using for recycling?
A. You may keep the recycling bin.
Q. Do I need to contact anyone to stop the recycling services I’ve been paying for separately through Rock River Disposal?
A. No, Rock River Disposal will discontinue billing you for separate services.
