Illinois American Water plans to invest approximately $1.5 million for water main installation projects in the South Beloit service area.
Crews will begin working this month to install over 4,900 feet of water main, according to a news release from Illinois American Water. The projects are expected to be complete in the fall.
Illinois American Water’s main replacement program focuses on replacing mains where leaks occur, corrosion has caused damage, the infrastructure has reached the end of its useful life, or the size of the pipe isn’t sufficient.
“This investment will enhance water quality and water pressure to our customers,” said Gary Owens, operations superintendent for Illinois American Water’s South Beloit District.
Main replacement projects account for about 4,100 feet of the main to be installed in South Beloit as follows:
• Oak Leaf Drive from Oak Leaf Court to American Legion Park
• Oak Leaf Court from Oak Leaf Drive to Spencer
• Spencer from Oak Leaf Court to Whittemore Drive
• Whittemore Drive from Blackhawk Boulevard to Oak Leaf Drive
• Timber Court, East from Whittemore Drive to Timber Court North
• Timber Court North from Timber Court East to Oak Leaf Drive
In addition, about 800 feet of 12-inch water main will be installed on Dearborn Avenue from Gardner Street to Plaza Drive. Six new system valves will be installed in the Prairie Commons Subdivision. According to Owens, the additional valves help decrease the occurrence of water service interruption when a leak occurs or critical maintenance is needed.
